QR Monkey Privacy Policy

Effective September 2, 2026

The short version

QR Monkey stores scan history, settings, and user-entered information locally on your device. Bundled Google ML Kit may send diagnostics and usage analytics to Google. Optional food-product lookup and redirect inspection contact the services described below. The app has no advertising, subscriptions, account, or sign-in and does not sell scan data.

Who we are

QR Monkey is developed and published by The Educated Monkey LLC. This policy applies to the QR Monkey Android app, package com.educatedmonkey.qrmonkeyapp, and does not describe unrelated products or websites.

Information stored on your device

QR Monkey processes scanned images and decoded QR-code or barcode values on your device. It can store ordinary scan history, titles, notes, settings, accessibility preferences, and other user-entered information locally in the app's private storage on your device. QR Monkey excludes this information from Android backup.

You can turn ordinary history saving off, choose a retention period, delete individual history entries, or clear all history from the app. Uninstalling QR Monkey or clearing its app data removes its private local data. Codes QR Monkey recognizes as authentication, password, payment, ticket, private invitation, or Wi-Fi information are not saved automatically.

Generated QR images remain on your device unless you explicitly save, share, or print them. Saved images are placed in the device's Pictures/QR Monkey collection and are then managed by you and Android.

Camera and saved images

Camera access is used only while you scan a code. QR Monkey can also scan an image you explicitly select. Barcode and QR-code image processing uses the bundled Google ML Kit barcode-scanning component and occurs on the device. QR Monkey does not send the camera image, selected image, or decoded result to Google for cloud barcode processing.

Optional network features

QR Monkey's ordinary scanning, QR creation, and local history features remain available without its optional network features.

If online redirect inspection is enabled, QR Monkey makes a limited request to the public HTTP or HTTPS destination in a scanned link to identify redirects. It does not execute scripts or submit forms. QR Monkey skips automatic inspection for links it recognizes as sensitive and rejects local, private, link-local, or unsupported destinations. The contacted website receives the normal connection information associated with an internet request and handles it under that site's own practices.

Food-product lookup is optional and user-initiated. When you request a lookup, QR Monkey may transmit the scanned barcode or product identifier to Open Food Facts. A successful result may cause QR Monkey to request a product image from third-party servers at a public HTTPS address returned by the product service. These providers receive normal connection information and handle requests under their own policies. QR Monkey does not create an account or cloud product history with these services.

When you tap Check for Updates, QR Monkey communicates with Google Play to check update availability.

Google ML Kit diagnostics

QR Monkey includes Google's bundled ML Kit barcode-scanning SDK. Google documents that ML Kit Android SDKs may collect app and device information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, feature-event information, feature size and version information, and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google states that this telemetry is encrypted in transit to Google using HTTPS connections and is not shared with third parties. Read Google's ML Kit Android data disclosure .

Advertising, accounts, subscriptions, and sale of data

QR Monkey contains no advertising or advertising SDK, has no subscriptions, and requires no user account or sign-in. The Educated Monkey LLC does not sell scan data or maintain a cloud scan-history service for QR Monkey.

QR Monkey does not collect location, financial, health, contacts, messages, or advertising-profile information and does not build advertising profiles. Information you enter into the app remains locally on your device as described above.

Children

QR Monkey is a general-purpose utility intended for people age 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13.

Security and limitations

QR Monkey uses encrypted HTTPS connections for product services, product images, Google services, and HTTPS destinations. A user-selected public HTTP destination may use an unencrypted connection. No scanner can guarantee that a website, product, payment request, or other destination is safe. Review important destinations before continuing.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when QR Monkey's functionality, service providers, or legal obligations change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
